  • America has led the world in refugee resettlement for 15 years, but asylum cases have pushed political tempers to a tipping point.Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjOAsylum is one way that refugees come to America. If you’ve already fled your home country for fear of persecution, and come to the United States, but don’t have refugee status, applying for asylum is the next step you take. It’s a small subset of the American immigration system, but it’s the mechanism behind so much of the news about border. Families recently separated from their children at the border came seeking asylum. People fleeing from Honduras, Guatemala, and El Salvador — an area known as the Northern Triangle — come to the United States seeking asylum. To even get a hearing before an immigration judge, potential asylum-seekers have to prove that they have what’s called “credible fear” of returning home. And this is where that backlog really begins. It’s worth noting that the U.S. is *directly* responsible for instituting some of these dictatorships that destabilized the region, back in the 70s/80s. This, to protect the interests of multinational fruit companies from “radical leftist governments” seeking to bring their citizens out of abject poverty and slave labor.

@Ricardo Perez If you read more about the region's history, you'd find that it has been bloody for centuries. What about Spain, who came and wiped out The Aztecs ? Before that, The Aztecs wiped out The Incas. I wonder how much it cost Queen Isabella? Not one society is completely innocent of raping, pillaging and plundering. Compared to those societies, The US has been civil.

nizo zaza those are the countries who should be taking them.. if you’re seeking refuge, it’s to the nearest, safest country. Ie not America, not Canada.

The point is, if you want to enter a country you'll need paperwork or evidence to prove you are an Asylum seeker. You can't just enter because you claim you are persucated.

You're trying to make it out like Trump is the one doing all of this, the system has been like this for decades, my mom helped hundreds of people do asylum. Also, they're not mentioning that YOU CANNOT APPLY FOR ASYLUM BASED ON FINANCIAL REASONS.

  • Techystar

My dood. Of course asylums been around for ever, the trump administration policies are tightening the availability of that service and making it harder to immigrate legally by decreasing acceptance limits at checkpoints. But even so they're not making trump look like anything lol. They're not inaccurate
