Samsung and Apple have a 1st world work force and therefore their super profits have to go towards paying minimum wage to a retail worker who lives in America, Australia or Europe. Chinese companies largely operate with Chinese staff therefore they don't have to charge a large premium. This is why 3rd world exploitation benefits the 1st world. Without it there's no way that you can have the benefits of living in a developed country (imperialist nation). It's that simple. You aren't exploited because somebody else down in the value chain is exploited and they don't live in the rich countries. When you understand that then you begin to understand what Communists/Socialists/Marxists have been talking about for over a century.

Korean flagship phones from three years ago are excellent buys for around $100. My LG V20 has battery that I can swap in 10 seconds, a great camera, and micro SD memory. No, it's not water proof.

A lot of people - unfortunately - buy a new phone every other year or so, so the slightly inferior components hardly matter. Also, the phone manufacturers do their own quality testing on their phones, so faulty RAM will likely be detected, but merely at a later stage of production.

I actually like the patent-free thing. Western and Japanese companies have been abusing patent laws for way too long, registering every ridiculous minute detail separately so that small, independent or new developers can hardly design anything without violating some patent. China as a whole should make a patent law that is much simpler and only allows patents on complete designs/products. And patents should automatically expire after 3 years.
