  • This is TJ's Joke Lock that he included with the "Ball Wall" lock that earned the Paclock. In his note, TJ WARNED me that this lock contained LOTS of ball bearings and, no matter what I did, they would probably come spilling out. Again, TJ used his precision pistolsmithing skills to impress us with his abilities.Like this video? If you cannot pick a lock modified by a pistolsmith, does that make the lock fall into the pistol-whipped category?

Or you could say TJ was "busting his balls"

This is why I include a Gutting Disaster Recovery Document with my challenge locks. ATTENTION all those submitting challenge locks: Please include Gutting Disaster Recovery Document (or image file) This picture of the pinning tray revealing original pin arrangement will help in the case of any freak mishaps while gutting.

That's a fantastic idea. Something with pictures, so that when I inevitably screw up a gutting or drop a couple of pins I can get them back into the right place so we can figure out what the builder intended.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the joke was the lock didn't actually lock. The wallowed out keyway to prevent top of the keyway tension, the ball bearing being held in the core by the screw in the side of the bible could cause enough of a bind on the core to make it feel like it's locked.

I don't get the joke.. If you can't pick it and the key works just fine, how is it a joke lock?

Pretty cool how he leaves you hidden instructions in the crazy lock. 🍺😎

I'm fairly certain the whole joke of this lock is to prevent you from tensioning it. The mod to the front to make it difficult to top of the key way tension, then the dent in the back is meant to stop the core from rotating with whatever tension tool you used I'd imagine. Thus, no binding pins and no feedback.

I'm wondering if the ball at the back was meant to add tension while in the locked position in order to hide feedback.

That's what I was thinking - it would mean you'd need to really turn up the tension on your first (few?) pins

Took some time to design that one out! Nice job, I can't believe how smooth it was opening with all the craziness inside!

Complicated beyond belief.. I can see why it is a joke.
