  • Here it is! Episode 1 of our new show on Netflix: Explained. There's two more at right now & new episodes every Wednesday. Subscribe to our channel! 2016, more than 2.2 million couples got married in America, but more than 800,000 got divorced. Cheating and breakups cause grief and heartache every day. Yet some historians and evolutionary biologists say monogamy is a relatively new, self-imposed system. Their evidence suggests humans lived without it for more than 250,000 years. And we only started marrying for love in the 1700s.So if monogamy is so hard, why do most of us, all around the world, make it a central goal of our lives?Vox tackled this question in the first episode of our new show with Netflix, Explained, which premieres today! We’ll have new episodes every Wednesday, on topics ranging from monogamy to gene editing to the racial wealth gap to K-pop and more. If you like our videos, then you’ll love this show; it’s our most ambitious video project to date. @David vd LugtSadly Vox are a bunch of racist liars. You might as well go to 8Chan and try to get educated there, more objective facts and less bias found there than in Vox......And 8Chan are utter knobs.

People get hurt with cheating because it's a monogamous relationship. When you're in that type of relationship the understanding is that you'll be with one woman at that time. If you're cheated on in a monogamous relationship that's breaking a social contract between the couple. You deserve to be upset if someone cheats in a monogamous relationship.

@Arrakiz666 You're ignoring the fact that evolution takes thousands of years, and we have many useless or counter-productive traits because they were dominantly useful in the past. Humans passively select mates for traits they intuitively believe to provide the greatest lifespan and largest number of offspring. This means that traits that historically allowed you to survive the longest, strength, speed, and vitality, are still considered the optimal conditions for a long life. This then supports itsel...

People can also feel jealousy or feel cheated in open/poly relationships though. I think it's because, as they said, we use sex to bond and having sex with one particular person a lot gives us a feeling of special closeness to them and we want to trust them and feel safe. If someone goes behind your back by lying or you even just feel less loved/less than their other sexual partner then it hurts.

When it comes down to it, I have to be in a monogamous relationship because I can't stand that empty pit in the stomach feeling I get, when thinking about my partner with another person.

@Tyrese Stewart If both or more party's involved consent to it then it isn't cheating, it is when it is held secret from one party.

@Tyrese Stewart No, it's not, if everyone involved is aware and consenting.
